What hashtags do on TikTok
Hashtags help TikTok understand your video and show it to people who like videos like it.
They tell TikTok who the video is for
TikTok looks at your caption, your hashtags, the sound and what happens in the video to decide who sees it. Tags that describe the video send it to the right people. Tags like #fyp or #viral describe nothing, so the generator never suggests them.
Mix specific and broad
A specific tag like #SourdoughStarter reaches fewer people, but they want exactly that video. A community tag like #BreadTok reaches people who follow the whole niche. One broad tag adds the wider subject. The generator picks a mix to start with, and you can change it.

Do hashtags still work on TikTok?

Should I use #fyp or #foryou?
No. They say nothing about your video, so they don't help TikTok find the right viewers. Use tags that describe the video and its community instead.
Are there TikTok hashtags I should avoid?
Leave out tags that have nothing to do with your video, and search a tag before you use it. If TikTok shows no videos for it, or a warning, don't use it.
