Why the right size matters on X

X fits every photo to its own shapes. If you resize first, you choose the crop, not X.

X crops what doesn't fit

X shows a single photo in full when it is landscape 16:9, square or portrait 3:4. A taller or wider photo gets cut to fit, and the cut can remove a face, a product or a line of text. When a post has two or more photos, X crops each one to fit its grid. Resize first and you decide what stays in the frame.

Which size to pick

Portrait 3:4 (1080 × 1440) takes up the most space in the timeline, so it is the best choice for a photo that must stop the scroll. Landscape 16:9 (1600 × 900) suits wide scenes, screenshots and anything with text across it. Square 1:1 is the safe choice when you are not sure. Your header is a wide 3:1 strip, and your profile picture shows as a small circle, so keep the subject in the middle of both.

Tips for your header and profile picture

On a phone, X cuts a little from the top and bottom of your header, and your profile picture covers part of its bottom-left corner. Keep text and faces in the middle of the header.
