Why the right size matters on YouTube
Your thumbnail is the first thing a viewer sees, and YouTube shows it everywhere from a phone to a TV.
Thumbnails: 3840 × 2160, or 1280 × 720 for 2 MB
YouTube recommends a 16:9 thumbnail at 3840 × 2160. The file can be up to 50 MB when you upload it on a computer, but only 2 MB from a phone, and a 4K JPEG is often bigger than that. For a phone upload, or for Posttyy, pick Thumbnail under 2 MB and download it as JPG. A thumbnail in any other shape gets black bars or a crop you didn't choose.
Banners: design for the middle
Upload the channel banner at 2048 × 1152 or larger, but only the middle 1235 × 338 shows on every device. TVs show the whole picture, computers a wide band, and phones the middle. Keep your name, face and text in the centre.
From resized to published
Custom thumbnails need a verified YouTube account. When the thumbnail is ready, add the under-2 MB version to your video in Posttyy's YouTube scheduler, and Posttyy uploads the video and its thumbnail at the time you pick.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
YouTube recommends 3840 × 2160 pixels, a 16:9 shape. The file limit is 50 MB when you upload on a computer and 2 MB from a phone, so a 1280 × 720 JPEG is the safe choice for a phone upload.
How do I make a picture into a YouTube thumbnail?
Drop the picture into the resizer, pick Video thumbnail (or Thumbnail under 2 MB for a phone upload), drag the crop box to frame it and download it as JPG. The resizer never makes a picture bigger than it is, so a smaller photo comes out at its own size.
What size is a YouTube channel banner?
At least 2048 × 1152 pixels. Only the middle 1235 × 338 shows on every screen, so keep the important part there.
What size is a YouTube profile picture?
Use a square picture. The resizer's 800 × 800 is large enough to stay sharp; YouTube shows it as a small circle, so the resizer draws that circle inside the crop box.
Why can't I upload a custom thumbnail?
YouTube only accepts custom thumbnails from verified accounts. Verify your account in YouTube's settings, then try again. Custom thumbnails for Shorts are currently added in YouTube Studio on a computer.
