The Instagram Reels safe zone
On a 1080 × 1920 Reel, the safe area is 880 × 1260 px. This is what covers the rest.

Two places your Reel gets covered or cut
A Reel is seen full screen in the Reels feed, and cropped on your profile grid. Plan for both.
The Reels feed covers the edges
Your username, the Follow button, the caption and the audio sit across the bottom. Like, comment, share and more run down the right. Subtitles placed low by an editing app are the most common thing to disappear, so lift them towards the middle.
Your profile grid crops the top and bottom
On your profile, Instagram shows each Reel as a 3:4 tile, cut from the middle of the 9:16 video. A title card with text near the top or bottom loses it on the grid. Keep the words of your cover in the centre of the frame.
Compose for the middle

What is the Instagram Reels safe zone?
The part of a Reel that Instagram's buttons, caption and menu bar don't cover. On a 1080 × 1920 Reel it is about 880 × 1260 px, starting 180 px from the top.
What size should an Instagram Reel be?
1080 × 1920 pixels, which is 9:16. That fills the phone screen in the Reels feed. A different shape gets bars or is cropped, and the checker shows that too.
Why is my Reel cropped on my profile?
Your profile grid shows Reels as 3:4 tiles, so the top and bottom of the 9:16 video are cut off there. Keep your cover's text in the middle of the frame.
Why are my subtitles hidden after posting?
Instagram shows your username, caption and audio across the bottom of the Reel, where most apps place subtitles. Move them up and check again.
Are the Reels and TikTok safe zones the same?
Close, but Reels covers a little more at the top and the bottom. Choose TikTok in the checker to compare the two on your own video.
Is my Reel uploaded?
