Getting the best text out of a picture
The clearer the words in the picture, the better the text that comes back.
Crop close, shoot straight
A photo taken straight on, in good light, with the words filling most of the frame, reads best. Crop out what you don't need before you upload it.
Exactly as written
The converter keeps the original spelling, capitals and language, and doesn't correct or translate anything. Words it can't read are left out rather than guessed.

How do I copy text from an image?
Upload the image or paste a screenshot, press Get text, and copy the text that comes back. It works on screenshots, photos and scans.
Is the image to text converter free?
Yes. It is free, with no login and no sign-up. To keep it free for everyone, each person can use it up to 30 times a day.
Does it work on handwriting?
Often, if the handwriting is clear. Neat, printed handwriting reads much better than joined-up writing. Check the result against the picture.
What languages does it read?
Most languages written in common scripts. The text comes back in the language it's written in, never translated.
Is it always accurate?
It's usually accurate on clear text, but AI can misread small, blurry or unusual lettering. Check anything important before you use it.
What happens to my image?
Your image is shrunk in your browser and sent to OpenAI, whose AI reads the text. Posttyy doesn't save your image or the text.
