The total time people have spent watching a video or all of an account's videos.
YouTube, TikTok and Reels all treat watch time as a key signal: videos that keep people watching get recommended more. YouTube also uses total watch hours as a requirement for its Partner Programme.
Average view duration, watch time divided by views, shows how long a typical viewer stays, and where they leave.
