Meta's text-first social app, launched in 2023 and linked to Instagram, where posts run to 500 characters.
Threads works much like X: short text posts with photos, videos, replies and reposts. Accounts are created from an Instagram login, and many people follow the same accounts on both.
It suits conversation, opinions and quick updates rather than polished visuals, and it recommends posts from accounts you don't follow in its main feed.
